Project Overview
The multi-billion-dollar expansion of Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, launched in 2018, marked a major milestone in the airport’s evolution into a modern global travel hub. The program included the demolition of the former international terminal and the construction of a state-of-the-art global terminal, increasing terminal square footage by 60%.
Upon completion, the expansion delivered 25 additional gates, 15 new restaurant and retail locations, and a streamlined security checkpoint featuring six new lanes to improve passenger flow and processing efficiency.
This large-scale infrastructure investment reinforced Chicago’s commitment to maintaining O’Hare’s position as a leading international gateway, expanding capacity to meet growing passenger demand while improving overall operational performance.
TWG’s Role
As part of a team of qualified contractors, TWG played a pivotal role in this historic expansion. TWG was responsible for managing the construction of critical fuel line systems designed to support airport operations for decades to come.
Key Contributions:
- Fuel Line Management:
TWG led the construction of fuel lines at O’Hare’s Terminal 5 and Truck Rack facilities. These components were part of a larger, 10-mile fuel distribution system enabling efficient aircraft refueling across the airport. TWG’s work helped ensure reliable fuel delivery—an essential element of daily airport operations.
- Quality Control & Compliance:
TWG provided an experienced Quality Control Inspector to oversee project management and compliance throughout fuel line construction. The inspector ensured all work met O’Hare’s rigorous Quality Control Plan, leading safety and pre-activity meetings, coordinating schedules, and enforcing standards related to safety, equipment usage, and construction quality.
- Project Management Excellence:
TWG’s Quality Control Inspector participated in all key coordination meetings, aligning construction activities, equipment deployment, and safety protocols. Through close oversight of testing and milestone verification, TWG helped deliver the project successfully while supporting O’Hare’s long-term operational goals.
Conclusion
TWG’s completed work on the O’Hare International Airport expansion demonstrates the firm’s ability to manage complex, high-stakes infrastructure projects and deliver critical systems with precision. Through disciplined project management and rigorous quality control, TWG helped ensure the airport’s long-term fuel infrastructure needs were met—supporting O’Hare’s transformation into a world-class international gateway
