ComEd - Site Walks & Pole Loading Analysis
Overview:
As the demand for faster and more reliable cellular service continues to rise, identifying optimal locations for small cell tower installations has become a high priority for utility and telecom providers. In response, KDM partnered with The Will Group (TWG) to deliver field data that would streamline decisions around 5G infrastructure placement in the City of Chicago.
What We Delivered:
TWG conducted comprehensive site walks to evaluate utility poles for compatibility with small cell installations. Each location was assessed against telecommunications, utility, and National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) standards to ensure compliance. TWG also provided pole loading analyses and make-ready summaries, giving KDM and ComEd the precise data they needed to proceed with 5G rollout plans.
By serving as the on-the-ground technical resource, TWG helped accelerate the decision-making process for telecom partners and facilitated infrastructure upgrades across the city.
Results:
– Evaluated numerous utility poles across the City of Chicago
– Delivered detailed pole loading analysis reports and make-ready documentation
– Enabled KDM and ComEd to expedite communication with telecom providers
– Supported future-ready telecom expansion and 5G connectivity infrastructure
ComEd had a need for pole loading analyses and make-ready summaries for the City of Chicago. KDM looked to TWG as the solution. KDM was then able to send that information back to ComEd, who then in-turn reported the information to the telecommunications company.
