Main Street Streetscape Improvements – Shelbyville, Illinois
Overview:
The project focused on redesigning key downtown intersections and improving pedestrian infrastructure along Main Street. Work included intersection studies, geometric design, and streetscape enhancements to create a safer, more accessible, and visually cohesive downtown environment.
What TWG Delivered:
– Intersection & Capacity Studies: Conducted intersection design study at Broadway Street and capacity analysis of signalized intersections at Broadway and Morgan Streets.
– Geometric Design: Developed intersection layouts for Morgan Street and East and West Washington Street, including coordination with Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT).
– Streetscape & Lighting Design: Designed decorative street lighting and traffic signal systems to enhance visibility and aesthetics.
– Pedestrian Improvements: Designed new curbing, sidewalks, and intersection upgrades to meet ADA requirements across approximately 60 business access points.
Results:
TWG Engineering developed a comprehensive design package to support the replacement of a multi-span bridge, improving safety and long-term roadway reliability. The project is currently pending completion.
